The Renthal hard anodising process creates a very hard, highly wear resistant surface of aluminium oxide which is an integral part of the chainwheel. The hard anodising process is performed under very stringent conditions and involves passing an electrical current through the chainwheel, which is submerged in a dilute solution of sulphuric acid refrigerated down to zero degrees centigrade.

The Renthal combination of a high strength base material and an exceptionally hard wearing surface, results in substantially increased chainwheel life.

Renthal hard anodised rear chainwheels have been used as original equipment on the Honda RS250 since 1994, and are currently in use with the World Superbike teams of GSE Ducati, Castrol Honda and Kawasaki.

Renthal also manufacture a hard anodised replacement for the one-piece rear chainwheel of the Ducati 916 and 748.
