Asymmetric Profiles

The majority of Piper camshafts listed are the well-established 'blueprint' asymmetric profiles. These Piper profiles and cams led the way in giving performance camshafts with a wider band of power than has been the accepted 'norm' and showing that modified cams, when correctly installed, help improve an engine's power and performance, equal or better fuel economy, and no increase in exhaust emissions.

Asymmetric cams give their advantage by using special lift curves that commence to open later. The later opening means reduced 'overlap' - the time when both vales are open.

This shorter period of overlap is of major assistance in reducing 'exhaust emissions' and results in better fuel economy.
