 EBC Ultimax discs are designed to run as quietly as possible. In some applications and with some grooved discs you can get a humming sound as the brakes are applied, especially under heavy braking. The smaller multiple grooves on the Ultimax discs help prevent this noise. The discs are also chemically treated with a corrosion resistant black finish. This finish will wear off the braking surface as shown in the picture but remains on all the unswept surfaces for between 2 to 5 years depending on conditions. This has been tested in industry-standard salt spray tests.
