Why is Motorsport World your best option for purchasing Piper Cams? Well there's our market leading discounted prices for a start but you also want to purchase from a company you can trust both with your hard earned cash and for technical competence. You may already be aware that we have been around for over 11 years, are the oldest e-commerce company in this market, have taken over 57,000 orders in this time etc etc but what about the staff for knowledge...
|Colin the Boss worked for one of the world's leading engine design companies, managing the cylinder head port development section. He personally knows the lead cam designer at Piper who works on joint projects with that company.
||Garry our Sales Manager worked at Piper Cams for 9 years before joining us. A personal friend of Colin's he always kept him right on what cam was the best option for each customer's application.
From a practical point of view, Colin's early days of car modification started in the late 70's rebuilding Ford X-Flow and Pinto engines with uprated cams, gas flowed heads etc - ah those were the days! Garry doesn't like getting his hands dirty but understands the principles!
Now that's our sales pitch over, better tell you something about Piper now....
About Piper Cams
Piper Cams have been designing and manufacturing performance camshafts since the late 1960’s and as well as the cams we sell for your road/track/race car, Piper do high-profile work (excuse the pun!) for the likes of Le Mans, WRC, Touring Cars, NASCAR, Indy Car and British and European Rallycross. They can also grind one-off profiles for the likes of the Aston shown to the right or the turbo charged Panda we organised over 10 years ago.
Continuous investment in state-of-the-art machinery has kept Piper at the forefront of camshaft design and manufacture and for some years now been using CNC Landis cam grinding equipment. In early 2007 Piper relocated to a new 25,000 sq/ft factory in Folkestone with a new air conditioned inspection department giving Piper the best camshaft/valve train analysis/design facility in the UK. The same design and manufacturing facilities are used for your road car cam as is used for a NASCAR or WRC cam.
Cams and Cam Kits
To help you choose the correct cam for your engine Piper has come up with a simple numbering system to differentiate the cam profiles.
The number relates to the approximate duration of the cam.
BP255 Mild road / automatic profile - Stage 1
The BP255 cam is the first level of cam tuning for applications where high torque is required for towing or touring. It is a straightforward installation with no modifications or additional parts required.
BP270 Fast road profile - Stage 2
The BP270 cam performs particularly well when used in conjunction with other Stage 2 tuning products such as a free flow exhaust system or remap, giving a good torque and power increase in road cars. This profile retains good driveability for road applications.
BP285 ultimate road / track day profile - Stage 3
The BP285 cam is designed for more heavily modified road/trackday cars and may require additional parts (such as double valve springs) or light machining of the cylinder head or piston crowns. Generally referred to as the Stage 3 of cam tuning this profile retains the tractability required for reasonable road use whilst giving good mid range torque and top end power. This profile works particularly well with ported and polished cylinder heads and throttle bodies / carburettors.
BP300 Rally / Race profile
The BP300 cam is designed for high performance rally or race engines where a wide torque band is required rather than out and out power.
BP320 Race profile
The BP320 cam is designed as a full race / sprint cam where maximum power and top end torque are required. This profile only works at higher revs.
Piper have come up with a range of kits and components to suit most applications. Typically a cam kit will contain a cam or pair of cams, cam followers, valve springs, timing disc and cam installation lube. These kits offer a saving over purchasing the components separately.
